Neben der Beschreibung des Ablaufs dieser Methoden werde ich zusätzlich auf die empirischen Grundlagen und die praktische Anwendung eingehen.

1 Selbstbeobachtung

Als „Basisfähigkeiten“ für den Prozess der Selbststeuerung werden die Selbstbeobachtung und Selbstprotokollierung angesehen. Eine planvolle und selbstgesteuerte Verhaltensmodifikation wäre, ohne eine Beobachtung des problematischen Verhaltens in bestimmten Situationen und das Festhalten der Ergebnisse, nicht möglich. Durch die Selbstbeobachtung werden sogar schon Veränderungen in Gang gesetzt. Doch erfordert eine systematische Selbstbeobachtung zumindest in der Anfangsphase eine Anleitung durch einen Therapeuten.
